14TH INTERNATIONAL MASTER COURSE IN PHLEBOLOGY, Riga (Latvia), June 17-18, 2016

Dear colleagues and friends!

On behalf of the Baltic Society of Phlebology I have the honour to invite you to Riga to the 14th International Master Course of Phlebology. The event will thematically focus on the current endovascular and transdermal techniques in the treatment of venous diseases. During the workshop we will focus on a combination of different non-invasive technologies and methods, covering various hot topics from endovenous ablation of saphenous veins and their superficial tributaries to transdermal laser ablation of skin veins, to achieve the best possible functional and aesthetic results.

We are delighted to welcome here Dr. Lowell S. Kabnick, MD, RPhS, FACS, FACPh (USA). He is an internationally recognized vascular surgeon and teacher who provides a patient-centered approach to vein care. His method enables the creation and improvement of many of today’s most advanced non-invasive vascular surgery techniques. After FDA approval, Dr. Kabnick was the first vascular surgeon in the United States to perform both the radiofrequency ablation and the endovenous laser procedures. He is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons as well as the American College of Phlebology. He considers himself fortunate to be recognized by his peers who have elected him to a leadership position, President, in The American Venous Forum. In 2007 he joined the faculty of the New York University Langone Medical Center, Division of Vascular and Endovascular Surgery as Director of the NYU Vein Center. Each participant of this event will have the unique opportunity to learn from Dr. Kabnick.

This will provide the participants with an opportunity to learn about the most accurate and up-to-date techniques in the transdermal and endovascular therapies of venous diseases from the world’s leading physicians specializing in varicose vein care.

The two-day workshop will focus on the latest techniques: foam sclerotherapy, transdermal and endovascular ablation, as well as provide “tips and tricks” for treating vein problems successfully. The emphasis will be put on learning efficiency by forming smaller groups of participants to ensure more opportunities for questions and discussions.

I am looking forward to seeing you all during the 14th International Master Course in Phlebology and welcoming you in Riga.

Dear colleagues and friends!

On behalf of the Baltic Society of Phlebology I have the honour to welcome you in Riga for the 12th International Master Course of Phlebology. The theme of this event is the treatment of venous leg ulcers.

This course is based on the most up-to-date knowledge gained from the recent guidelines of the American Venous Forum and International Union of Phlebology. In recent years significant progress has been achieved in the field of treating venous leg ulcers. Therefore this workshop will focus on a combination of different technologies and methods, covering hot topics from ultrasound guided foam sclerotherapy and Shave therapy, to endovenous ablation and compressions therapy, to achieve the best possible results in venous ulcer healing.

We are delighted to welcome here Dr. Eberhard Rabe (Germany), Emeritus President of the International Union of Phlebology and former President of the German Society of Phlebology and Dr. Felizitas Pannier (Germany), Member of the Board of the German Society of Phlebology. Over the past years they have made a significant contribution to the events organized by the Baltic Society of Phlebology. Thus, it is a great pleasure indeed that the two of them are participating in this particular master course.

We are also honoured and excited to welcome among us Dr. Hans-Joachim Hermanns (Germany, Switzerland), a leading physician in vein surgery and operative ulcer treatment (Shave therapy) in Germany and Switzerland. It is a major advantage for the participants that he has agreed to participate in this master course as faculty member. Each participant of the event will have the unique opportunity to learn from him the technique of Shave therapy for venous leg ulcers.

This provides the participants with an opportunity to learn about the most accurate and state-of-art techniques in the treatment of venous leg ulcers from the world’s leading physicians specialising in varicose vein and ulcer care.

The two-day workshop will focus on the most recent techniques: compressions therapy, sclerotherapy, Shave therapy and laser ablation, as well as provide “tips and tricks” for treating vein problems and ulcers successfully.

The emphasis will be put on learning efficiency by forming smaller groups of participants to ensure more opportunities for questions and discussions.

As many already know this workshop bears some specialties:
International character – in cooperation with other phlebological societies and the german professional association for lymphology - opinions from many countries are to be heard about, practical topics and courses, semi- live operation course, intimate atmosphere, each participant is also a referent, topic discussions without prepared lectures. The convention has the form of a large round table talk without a program elaborated in detail. To each topic you can present your proposals or short lectures. The program, as ever before, is just globally outlined; the particular lectures are not listed, so there is still room for some surprise. The lectures are hold in English or German language, the beamer presentations are supposed to be shown parallel in both languages. A congress DVD will be realeased as every year, which you get at the congress. All participants receive a booklet of every presentation in English and Hungarian.

11TH INTERNATIONAL MASTER COURSE IN PHLEBOLOGY, Riga (Latvia), July 31 - August 1, 2015

Dear colleagues and friends!
On behalf of the Baltic Society of Phlebology I have the honor to welcome you in Riga for the 11th International Master Course of Phlebology. The theme of this event is the treatment of venous diseases during summer time. The venous disease treatment has undergone considerable changes over the past few years. New technologies keep emerging on the market allowing for less traumatism to the varicose veins during the treatment and reducing the complications risk to the minimum.

Frequently even specialized clinics perform varicose vein treatment only during the cooler months of the year the reason being that over warmer weather spells patients tend to not comply with requirement to wear compression sockings. Consequently in clinics, over summer months, there is significant decline in the numbers of patients treated. This fact served as the rationale for our initiative to organise this event to share our experience in treating varicose veins also during summer months - not using the compression therapy, while at the same time retaining the treatment quality.

We are delighted to welcome here Dr Bo Eklof from Sweden, a former president of the American Venous Forum (AVF) and honorary member of the European Venous Forum (EVF). He has been and still is on the editorial boards of numerous journals, including J Kuwait Med Association, Phlebology, Med Principles and Practice, International Angiology, Brit J Surg, J Cardiovasc Surgery, International J Angiology, Vasc Endovasc Surgery, J Phlebology, and Vascular. He is the author of more than 250 papers in peer-reviewed journals with 40 book chapters and 460 presentations. He has been a member of several guideline committees for the Society for Vascular Surgery and the AVF, as well as the EVF. He is the person responsible for organizing the EVF Hands-on Workshops (EVF HOW) since their start in 2010. Each participant of this event will have the unique opportunity to learn from him.

I would like to point out that Dr Kasuo Miyake from Brazil will also be joining us. He is the President of the International Meeting on Aesthetic Phlebology – IMAP and Director of Clinica Miyake. For the past 10 years he has worked on developing and implementing the ClaCS (cryo-laser and cryo-sclerotherapy) method that allows treating spider veins without compression therapy while at the same time reducing the side effect risk. It is a great pleasure indeed that he will participate in this master course as faculty member. This provides the participants with an opportunity to learn about the most accurate and state-of-art techniques in treatment of venous diseases from the world’s leading physicians in vein care.

The two-day workshop will focus on the most recent techniques: sclerotherapy and laser therapy, as well as “tips and tricks” for treating vein problems successfully.

I am looking forward to seeing you all during the 11th International Master Course in Phlebology and welcoming you in Riga in summer time.

10TH INTERNATIONAL MASTER COURSE IN PHLEBOLOGY, Riga (Latvia), December 5-6, 2014

Dear colleagues and friends!
On behalf of the Baltic Society of Phlebology I have the honor to welcome you in Riga for the 10th International Master Course of Phlebology. The theme of this event is current endovascular technologies in treatment of venous diseases. The key factor in the treatment of varicose veins and venous insufficiency is how successful and atraumatic we are in the treatment of axial reflux in the saphenous veins and side branches. In recent years significant progress has been achieved in endovascular therapy. Methods have become less traumatic and less painful, and we can carry out the treatment without the use of compression therapy. This has made a significant impact on our treatment strategy. In particular, on the treatment of patients during the summer period and hot weather spells. We are delighted to welcome here Dr. Nick Morrison (USA), President-Elect of the International Union of Phlebology, Past-President of the American College of Phlebology, Chairman of the American College of Phlebology Foundation, and Editor-in-Chief of Phlebology Forum. Each event participant will have the unique opportunity to learn from him. I would also like to point out that Dr. Attilio Cavezzi (Italy), Vice-President of the International Union of Phlebology is also joining us. He has shown excellent performance both as a lecturer and as a practitioner during our previous master course that was dedicated to the aesthetic treatment of venous disorders. I am therefore delighted that he has agreed to participate also in this course to share his knowledge in sclerotherapy of saphenous veins. Of particular interest is his technology of ultrasound guided long catheter sclerotherapy of saphenous veins. Thus it is a great pleasure indeed that he will participate in this master course. This is an opportunity to learn the most accurate and up-to-date techniques in endovascular therapies of venous diseases from the world’s leading physicians in vein care. The two-day workshop will focus on the latest techniques: foam sclerotherapy and laser ablation, as well as “tips and tricks” to treat vein problems successfully. 5th 5TH INTERNATIONAL MASTER COURSE IN PHLEBOLOGY, Riga (Latvia), December 2-3, 2011
This master course continues a tradition established by our society to organize such
workshops in every country in Baltics and Belorussia.
In the recent years the Baltic States have been seriously affected by the economical crisis
therefore many patients with venous diseases do not seek for doctor’s help early enough.
The number of patients with venous ulcer problems has significantly increased in the
last two years and that is the main reason for organizing this particular course.
This two-day workshop is designed for the phlebologists, surgeons and vascular surgeons
interested in new techniques in treatment of venous ulcers.
